Have you heard about UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list? (http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/)
Here are examples of what’s on the list :
The gastronomic meal of the French was listed in 2010 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
‘It is a festive meal bringing people together for an occasion to enjoy the art of good eating and drinking. The gastronomic meal emphasizes togetherness, the pleasure of taste, and the balance between human beings and the products of nature.’
‘The Mediterranean diet constitutes a set of skills, knowledge, practices and traditions ranging from the landscape to the table, including the crops, harvesting, fishing, conservation, processing, preparation and, particularly, consumption of food.’
Nutritionist Tip : remember that to be able to eat healthy and to lose weight (or maintain) : you have to develop the ART of eating and create your own family culture !
As a nutritionist, I have often met people who have seen their eating habits deteriorate after losing the social aspect of eating. In their previous job (or country) they used to have up to one hour for their lunch break, they used to relax, meet up with a friend, their wife or colleagues and eat together.
The least we can do if we don’t have up to one hour to eat is to treat the lunch break AS a break and as an activity of its own. (That means No internet, No newspaper, No cellphone etc.)
